The show tends to look into popular videos, whether they seem really fake (to me) or not. It's incredible what some people will take as "real" on the internet (and TV) -- and I think Fact or Faked does a public service by exposing popular fakes. How quickly the show reveals the truth seems, to me, entirely a matter of format. They always have 3 theories, and the one that proves correct is always the last one. I'm sure that's probably an editing choice, to give the show suspense.

But I'd really rather they gave up the ghost hunting altogether. Wandering around in the dark waiting for spooky shadows or noises has, so far as I know, no real basis in science and proves nothing (save that humans are easily scared). Clearly, though, it must help the show reach its "believer" audience and keep its ratings high.

But I'm glad when, as in last night's Battleship show, they can show that supernatural "evidence" from other ghost-hunting groups is merely bad camera work and similar lack-of-scientific-rigor problems. That, too, does a public service, IMHO.

The show is not Mythbusters, but I do think it's been getting better in proving fakes as fakes. (Though the ghost hunting is not helping.)Stephen D. You have the exact same thoughts that ...hey there,

You have the exact same thoughts that I did regarding the 'bigfoot' walking through the forest. I was rather bemused when they decided to take that case on, because to me, average Josephine Bloggs, it looked like CGI, particularly with the way it moved...they've debunked many other videos much better than these as CGI so I'm assuming they wanted to add this to the photo of 'bigfoot' so they could go off and investigate.

As for pride house, I'm wondering why they didn't show us a photo of the photographer so we could compare the physique.. perhaps he wasn't wearing white either which would account for the darker smoky image.

As for the door, I also believed it to be because the investigator was hopping about near that door... and also the warm handprint would probably have been made by a camera man who may have wanted to avoid embarrassment by admitting he did it..

Good review. Bad investigation on behalf of FOF lolAnniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11467949689620284521noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3811042393977179973.post-70810927074518054892011-10-26T12:44:33.911-07:002011-10-26T12:44:33.911-07:00I just finished watching this episode. The old lad...I just finished watching this episode. The old lady in the beginning said they were guaranteed to find a Bigfoot if they go to this one glacier. After watching the trek they took to get to this location I wonder WHY do the locals go there in the first place? It's so remote and can't possibly offer anything. These people are going to get themselves killed one day either by a stupid accident or animal attack.

Also wouldn't it make more sense to scout during the day when the eyewitness accounts actually happened? Runnin around in the dark is stupid unless it's a nocturnal animal or ghost they are seeking.Sandra Sorokahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14525675510558762617noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3811042393977179973.post-12921005717907568742011-07-20T13:30:28.808-07:002011-07-20T13:30:28.808-07:00Actually, I was _fine_ with the original video. I...Actually, I was _fine_ with the original video. It looked pretty darn cool. My problem with this show, and a lot of its ilk, is they only showed us edited snippets of the video -- rather than letting us see the whole thing to get the context. Context often helps explain/solve a mystery.

And I agree that more should be spent, and more serious missions mounted, to look into such things.

I don't think that particular video looks like moose or sturgeon, either, though I would have liked an outside (non-crypto)_expert to have looked at it. Several times, on Fact or Faked, for instance, something that looks mysterious to you and me looks less mysterious to an actual marine biology expert. "Manatee group mating cluster" springs to mind, otherwise mistaken for a single, strange sea monster off the Florida coast.

My guess for this might be a cluster of seals or sea otters -- though I'm open to it being an unknown creature.Stephen D. But, to be fair it only claims to be "home video" of their personal "look into" the sea monster claim.

If their good old boys, "get-er-done" fishing adventure prompts something of a more serious investigation then more power to them.

Debunkers are a little limp with half lidded suggestions of a sturgeon or moose in the video of the unidentified creature in the water.

I think it probably safe to say if there were as much budgeted to this endeaver as something as mundane as shrimp running on a treadmill? There could be far more understanding as to what the as yet unidentified creature truly is.Rickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07743435994416190755noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3811042393977179973.post-92122386449750792362010-09-10T13:11:41.225-07:002010-09-10T13:11:41.225-07:00Thanks for the kind words. It seems to be a problem that most of the team are "believers" on some level -- otherwise, why start doing EVP sessions (which have no scientific value at all) when things get tricky?

And they often take too long to reach an obvious conclusion. The car being "pushed by ghosts" actually being on a hill, not seen because of optical illusions, for instance. And they miss other obvious solutions -- the magician trick on the ghost writing photos, for one, or (on a show I haven't reviewed yet) the civil war ghost being some kind of accidental reflection caused by the quality/shape/size of the lens in the camera used for the original video.

Not enough science for me. Which means their chance of actually rooting out anything truly supernatural are low (because they're not rigorous enough and believe too much).Stephen D. Very nice entry. :)

The show gets on my nerves a lot. I find it less believable than most other shows. I just can't wrap my head around the "Experts" who just seem like a gaggle of actors. The fact that I saw Chi-Lan on an episode of some HGTV show and read she used to host TechTv shows kinda makes me doubt she is who she claims she is. :P

Those Night Crawlers interest me a lot! I wish there was more debunking dedicated to them! The way the second one walked all spastic you could see it was wearing some sort of "Pants" looking clothes and had thin legs. I mean the night crawler video was clearly not a puppet on a line, or on a stick. Clearly the home owner did not produce this video as a hoax. However, with all of their equiptment failing in the field, there was no problems with the stations cameras, or none that was evident. It's so frustrating when watching this show, it seems very Hollywood and rather difficult to believe. I prefer Paranormal State to the expermintal shows, but I think all of these need the cast to shut up more, because they are always asking the others if
they heard this or moved that, causing us to miss whatever it was. In this specific footage I'd expect that they would have access to editing equiptment that could simply clean up the image in a still frame so it was easier to identify, and yeah, invest in some way to eliminate the question of if the thermal cam is sensing a deer or if it is in fact an
unidentified lake creature as suggested by one member of the team. I'd like to find a link to the clip online to clear up the still image myself. Whatever it is it is very small and I'd like to think those light images are long legs, but it also
appears to be a scarf or robe of some kind round the neck that's swinging. I dunno, but could get closer to an explaination or image than these fools and their pumpkin head puppet.yslgirlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08912180337346989184noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3811042393977179973.post-66600258126326706682010-06-12T17:13:26.841-07:002010-06-12T17:13:26.841-07:00Agreed.
