MONSTERQUEST - Sierra Sasquatch

History Channel - Original Air Date: 3/17/10

You'll never guess what's on MonsterQuest for this Saint Patrick's day?  Yep, another Bigfoot show.  I guess this shouldn't be surprising, my Bigfoot blank book is one of my best sellers.  So if MQ has gone to this well damn often, maybe we can't blame them.  Bigfoot is, well, big.

We start with Butch Young, a military trainee who had an encounter with 2 bigfoots (bigfeet?) during a nighttime wargame patrol.  He and his patrol didn't get a good look, but they know the humanoids they saw in the hills that night weren't other people in their maneuvers.  They have another military eyewitness -- this time in the day -- later in the show.  John Mionszynski is skeptical; he thinks most "bigfoot" tracks are known animals misidentified.  Naturally, MQ has to send out teams - including regular Jeff Meldrum - to look around, and examine, er, footage.  They take up a plane that can glide silently to do some recon, but turn nothing up.  They then look at a vacation film, from an anonymous family, that shows a mystery creature - which the science team will analyze.  The photo experts set up cameras and do some pretty accurate measuring, trying to determine how big the shape actually was.  The show is also working with a tracker this time, and the MQ team sets up a test to see if he's any good; the tracker does amazingly well.  But, they don't find new, conclusive prints, just one similar to ones found by a local witness.  A juvenile, maybe, they speculate.  Then they compare some human prints with some they believe are bigfoot.  Some of the prints they've taken might be juvenile bigfoot, though they certainly look human to me.  Of course, no one knows what a juvenile sasquatch print would look like.  The tracker says there isn't enough evidence to know.  Unfortunately, passage of time and weathering have made it difficult for the film experts to calculate the creature's height - 6-8' is the closest they can get.  But it still looks like a bear or a guy in a bulky costume to me.  So, once again, nothing conclusive.  Maybe when Destination Truth starts up again, we'll get some actual monsters.

Well if you call a reality king twit looking for Leprechauns real...then I guess you can scribble another senseless book

You're entitled to your opinion of any given show or host, man, but there's no need for gratuitous insults.

Hello Steve...Well, it's not true that we don't know what juvenile tracks look like, I've spent 25 years collecting such evidence... juvi tracks are all very wide, flat footed, thickly padded/calloused, 5 toe alignments showing no possibility the individual wore shoes
in the growth process. What is more, juveniles ALWAYS are in the presence of adult tracks within a reasonable proximity! We even have 4 cases of beautifully delineated baby tracks and all of those are 4-5 inches long, very wide, all are of flat footed babies from the smallest onward; in one unique cast the baby BF had splayed toes which is an inherited defect. The splayed toed baby tracks were laid out along side adult tracks, showing the adult also carried the defect. So we have a great deal of information to draw from outside Dr. Meldrum's limited concept of what is accurate...he is, in my view, terribly out of touch with what is real in research. We also have two cases of missing digits; two cases of ectrodactyly. It is unfortunate that so much misinformation is generated by programs such as MonsterQuest when really Stephen, the record shows some very exciting progress in what research knows about the Sasquatch foot. FWIW...there is no midtarsal break inherent in the BF foot structure, it would take many major anatomical modifications to achieve what Dr. Meldrum proposes and most of what he bases his hypothesis on is one lone track known to us as the Laverty track. That individual stepped on some artifact causing the pressure indentation in the sole of the bf's foot...I assure people that there are no other tracks like it for comparative studies. It is more than likely a ploy for funding under the guise of a new ape species...but no ape has ever evolved to walk upright as a normal course of ambulation and North American has no fossil record of great apes or bipedal apes. Even the Neanderthalers were more human than previously thought.

I'm sorry, Bobbie, I slipped from commentator voice (looked like a human print to me) and back into review-narrative voice without warning. Unless I remember wrong, it was the show (or someone on it) who said no one knew what a juvenile bigfoot print looks like. Not me. "We" was all of us, according to the show. (A sloppy edit, I admit, but I usually write these things semi-live as the show progresses.)

I don't claim to know all the current print research, I just review the shows -- and try to do so within their own context. My purpose is to provide some record of what's out there in supernatural/monster related shows. So, when, for instance, I want to look up juvenile bigfoot references, i can see which show it was in. (And other people can, too.) Thanks for the update on your research.
